Tequila, the most famous Mexican drink, is a distillate made from a cactus type plant called agave. There are over 180 types of agave and tequila is made of the kind called blue agave, which resembles a giant pineapple. The agave must be between 8-12 years and are accurate about 7 kilos of plant for 1 liter of tequila.
After distillation, the tequila can be bottled or aged in oak barrels, according to their classification. The tequila blanco or plata, is the youngest, being bottled up to 2 months after its distillation. It is consumed neat or in numerous cocktails.
