Casa Ferreirinha's Reserva Especial is a wine with charisma and maturity. A wine announced only in extraordinary years, rare and singular, which allows you to taste the best that is made in the Douro. Created in 1960 by Fernando Nicolau de Almeida, Reserva Especial has just 18 editions, each one presenting a distinct profile, but revealing the same identity and origin: the Douro Superior.

Reserva Especial 2014 is the most recent example of this great Douro red, a new vintage born under the full supervision and responsibility of Luís Sottomayor. For the head of winemaking at Sogrape in Douro, “It is a wine that stands out for its elegance, the result of a temperate year with good maturation, and also for its excellent volume, lively acidity, firm tannins and an extremely long and complex finish”. Vinified at Quinta da Leda, in Almendra, the lot contains selected grapes from the property, which currently has around 170 hectares of vineyards. With an intense aroma, where notes of spices, truffles and sous-bois stand out, as well as black fruits, a stony character and some cocoa, Reserva Especial 2014 “is one to remember”, concludes Sottomayor.
