MONTE MEÃO WINE VINHA DOS NOVOS 2020 RED

This vineyard, planted in 1996, with the Touriga Nacional grape variety on granite land, has around 3.5 hectares. It owes its name to the fact that it is adjacent to the Adega dos “Novos” which, in turn, is so named because it was built by D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira after verifying that the Adega da Barca Velha, built previously, was not large enough to house all of the Quinta’s production. In the first few years, we found that it produced a very different wine, compared to Tourigas planted in other types of soil. A small amount in the Meandro or Vale Meão batch completely changed the final style of these wines. We then came to the conclusion that, as it has its own identity, it should be bottled without any mixing with other wines. Vinha dos Novos 2009 was our first wine bottled exclusively from a single parcel.

VARIETIES:
100% Touriga Nacional

VINIFICATION:
After crushing, the grapes undergo a thermal shock followed by foot treading for four hours in granite presses. The must is transferred to small capacity winemaking vats with temperature control. The castes are
vinified separately. This wine aged in second and third year 225 liter French Allier oak barrels.

TASTING NOTES:
Excellent color, very vivid. A very floral nose, with citrus notes. In the mouth, its floral profile is maintained and enchants with its smoothness. In the mouth it presents an extraordinary elegance, excellent acidity, with present but fine tannins.
